The Mentor Boys basketball team openEd their season this past Wednesday with a victory over Kenston, but also knew the GCC game at Medina was going to be a test. After knocking off the Bees at the CSU Regional last March, the Cardinals knew their second game of the 2020-2021 season was going to be a battle. The 76-65 victory over the Bees moved the Cardinals to 1-0 in GCC play and 2-0 on the year. Mentor got 30 points and 8 assists from senior guard Luke Chicone. Steven Key II scored 12 points, Ian Kipp added 10 points and Kyle Culler chipped in 9 points for the victorious Cardinals. Also scoring for Mentor was Cael Gray with 6 points, Jonah Waag with 5 point and Andrew Smith with 4 points. The Cardinals will look to move to 3-0 on the season as they travel to Warren Harding on Saturday January 9th.
