Cardinals News · Mentor Defeats GCC leading Medina 81-80

With a 5 game winning streak heading in a showdown with with GCC leading Medina, the Mentor Boys Basketball team faced some adversity during the week when the lost senior captain Caleb Piks to a finger injury.  However, due to some late game heroics by Luke Chicone the Cardinals extended their winning streak with an 81-80 victory over Medina.  Chicone hit a 24 foot three pointer as time expired.  Chad Rogers led the Cardinals 26 points, Luke Chicone added 25, including the last 9 points of the game, and senior guard Luke Floriea added 20 points.  Senior Cam Miller came off the bench to add 5 points.  With his 17th point of the night Luke Floriea scored his 1,000th career point.  A road trip down to Cincinnati awaits the Cardinals on Saturday February 1 as they take on 14-2 Lakota East.
