After suffering a GCC setback at Solon on Tuesday, the Mentor Boys Basketball team found themselves in “gut-check” situation on Friday. Shaker Heights brought their 9-1 and 5-0 league record to Mentor and the Raiders took a 33-32 lead into halftime. The Cardinals responded in the 3rd quarter, out scouring Shaker Heights 27-19, leading to a 79-70 victory. Mentor was paced by junior point guard Luke Chicone and senior wing Chad Rogers who each scored 24 points. Senior Luke Floriea added 19 points for the Cardinals. Mentor also got key contributions from seniors Andrew Witte and Caleb Piks, while juniors Cael Gray and Kyle Culler produced a bench spark. The Boys Basketball team will return to action next Friday when they travel to Strongsville to take on the Mustangs in a GCC contest.
