Almost a week after suffering their first loss of the season, the Mentor Boys Basketball team open the Arby’s Classic, one of the most prestigious high school tournaments in the country, with an 83-54 victory over Greeneville (TN). The Cardinals used their traditional uptempo style get the game at a high pace early and opened a 48-24 lead halftime. The second half of the game featured more of the same pace and allowed 14 Cardinals to get valuable experience. Chad Rogers lead Mentor with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Mentor’s backcourt of Luke Chicone and Luke Floriea had 18 and 16 points respectively and both contributed 5 assists. Kyle Culler chipped in 8 points while Andrew Witte had 5 points off the bench. Mentor moves on to the quarterfinals where they will face Dobyns-Bennett, who upset Southwest DeKalb (GA) who featured Ohio State Basketball signee Eugene Brown III.
